What is the Church of Christ?

This is a question I would like to hear from a lot of people. Unfortunately, not enough people are looking for the answer to this question. When you read the New Testament, you will find that there is no mention of many of the “Churches” that we see today. There is no mention of creeds or “different views.” There is a Church there, which is mentioned with Christ as the Founder and Head of this Church. I will answer the question posed in this tract in three parts. We will first look at the name, then at the authority, and finally at how to define the New Testament Church.

Please take a moment to read the material below to explain who we are and what we believe.

  1. We have no creeds, we just believe that the Word of God is our authority. We believe that the Bible is the inspirational, complete and perfect word of God (2 Timothy 3: 16-17 and Peter 2 1: 3).
  2. We believe that if you ask us a Biblical question, we have an obligation to give you a Biblical answer (1 Thessalonians 5:21,
    1 Peter 3:15 and Romans 12:2).
  3. We believe that we cannot add to or subtract from God's written Word (Revelation 22:18-19, Deuteronomy 4:2, Galatians 1:8-9).
  4. We believe that we will be judged on the basis of the Law of Christ (John 12:48). Therefore, we believe that the Law of Moses [Old Covenant] does not bind us today (Colossians 2:14, Romans 7:1-6 and Hebrews 9:15-17).
  5. We do not practice any man-made doctrines, which would be a violation of God's Law (Galatians 1:10 and Matthew 15:7-9).
  6. We believe that the Bible speaks of ONLY ONE Church (Ephesians 4:4, Ephesians 1:22-23, Colossians 1:18, Matthew 16:18 and I Corinthians 12:12-13).
  7. We believe that the Church of Christ is that ONE Church because:
    • She uses the biblical name (Romans 16: 16 and Ephesians 4: 12).
    • It was not formed by separation and does not bear anyone’s name (1 Corinthians 1: 10).
    • Christ is the founder and head (Matthew 16:18 and Colossians 1:18).
    • We worship in Spirit and Truth (John 4: 24).
      • Every first day of the week the Lord's Supper (Acts 20:7, Matthew 26:26-30 and I Corinthians 11:23-29).
      • Every first day of the week is a voluntary offering (1 Corinthians 16:1-2).
      • Bible preaching only (2 Timothy 4:2, Romans 1:16, Mark 16:15-16 and Matthew 28:19).
      • We pray (1 Thessalonians 5: 17).
      • We sing without the accompaniment of a musical instrument, realizing that it is in the heart that the New Testament worship melody is located (Ephesians 5: 19 and Colossians 3: 16).
  8. We believe what the Bible teaches about the plan of salvation:
    • The word of God must be heard (Romans 10: 14-17, Matthew 13: 19 and Matthew 28: 19).
    • Believe this gospel (Mark 16: 15-16, Hebrews 11: 6, John 8: 24 and John 3: 16).
    • It is necessary to repent of your sins (Luke 13:3; 5, Acts 2:38, Acts 26:20 and Acts 17:30).
    • We must recognize that Christ is the Son of God (Acts 8:37, Romans 10:10 and Matthew 10:32-33).
    • It is necessary to be baptized by immersion for the remission of sins (Acts 2:38, Romans 6:1-6, Galatians 3:27, 1 Corinthians 12:12-13, 1 Peter 3:20-21, Acts 8:12, Acts 22:16, II Corinthians 5:17 and John 3:1-5).

Not a denomination

For this reason we are not interested in artificial creeds, but simply in the pattern of the New Testament. We do not think of ourselves as a denomination - we are not Catholics, Protestants or Jews - but simply members of the church that Jesus established and for which He died.

And that is why we bear His name. The term "Church of Christ" is not used as a denominational designation, but rather as a descriptive term indicating that the church belongs to Christ.

We are aware of our personal shortcomings and weaknesses - and this is another reason for wanting to carefully follow the self-sufficient and perfect plan that God has for the church.

All the above passages are only the beginning of the truth. Christ said: (John 8:32) “And you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.” We hope and pray that you will consider the above. We pray that you will study these things for yourself (Acts 17:10-11 and II Timothy 2:15).

Once again, we encourage you to learn with us so that we can help you as Philip did for the Eunuch (Acts 8:26-39).

If you have read this page and want to find a New Testament Church, look no further. We are it! Test us with the Bible and you will find that we speak where the Bible speaks and we are silent where the Bible is silent! Ask us today about Salvation and the path to eternal life, and we will gladly open the Word of God and study with you.

(Acts 22:16) “So why are you delaying? Arise, be baptized and wash away your sins, calling on the name of the Lord Jesus.”
